FYLD, in partnership with SGN and National Grid, has successfully concluded the first phase of a groundbreaking project which aims to dramatically transform safety in the utilities and heavy civils industries. The project drives the development and deployment of an innovative predictive machine-learning model which calculates high-risk events before they happen.
Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (OFGEM) awarded FYLD, SGN and National Grid £500k in 2022 to progress the development of Predictive Safety Interventions (PSI), which have now been enabled on the FYLD platform for a pilot group.
The PSI model uses live data feeds to send an alert to field teams when it detects that a site may have an elevated safety risk. These alerts are sent at timely points of work, before activity starts, to enable the artificial intelligence and machine learning powered PSI to inform all site activity. This phase of the project has performed in line with forecasted targets.
The second phase of the project will see further development and deployment of the machine learning model at full organisation scale, as well as investigating use of augmented reality and body camera footage to enhance the interventions.

FYLD secured the funding as part of the inaugural Alpha phase of OFGEM’s Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF). The SIF is delivered in partnership with Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
