Case study: How Beetmann improved project efficiency and reduced operational costs with FYLD
About Beetmann
Beetmann is a prominent electricity retailer in Mexico's deregulated energy market, specializing in providing competitive energy prices and innovative energy storage solutions. The company optimizes electricity consumption through a mix of on-site solar energy generation, real-time market purchases, and advanced energy storage systems.
In addition to retailing electricity, Beetmann leads the charge in the distributed generation sector, designing, building, operating, and maintaining solar projects under the distributed generation scheme (for systems under 500 kW). These solar projects are integral to Beetmann's strategy for delivering cost-effective, renewable energy solutions to end-users.
Focusing on both competitive pricing and energy storage, Beetmann aims to enhance energy reliability and reduce costs for its customers. FYLD is currently being used to support Beetmann’s solar projects, enabling real-time project monitoring, efficient tracking of materials, and enhanced safety on-site.
The challenge
As Beetmann scaled its operations, they encountered several challenges that hindered their ability to meet project timelines and optimize operational costs:
-
Extended project timelines: While Beetmann’s goal was to complete each distributed generation project within 120 days, delays often occurred, particularly due to rework.
-
Operational efficiency: Beetmann faced escalating operational costs due to extended project timelines. These costs included worker salaries, equipment rentals, insurance, and materials. The delays and rework significantly increased the overall expenditure for each project.
-
Lack of visibility: With projects spread across multiple cities and supervisors managing sites from a distance, Beetmann struggled to achieve transparency in their day-to-day field operations. The lack of real-time visibility across all projects made it challenging to monitor job site conditions, ensure safety, and maintain control over operational progress.
-
Tracking and documentation: The company also required a system for tracking the delivery of materials and maintaining thorough, accurate documentation for each project, from start to finish.
The solution
FYLD’s platform provided Beetmann with the tools they needed to address these operational challenges and accelerate their project timelines:
-
Real-time visibility and Video Risk Assessments (VRA): FYLD’s AI-powered VRA allowed Beetmann to document site conditions through concise video surveys. This proactive approach not only provided instant visibility across all their active projects but also enabled Beetmann to replace traditional paper permits with digital VRAs. This shift streamlined the permit approval process, saving time and ensuring all necessary documentation was in place for each project. Managers could remotely monitor sites, ensuring real-time hazard identification and prompt resolution of potential issues.
-
Evidence capture and material delivery tracking:: FYLD’s time-stamped photos and videos allowed Beetmann to document job progress and material deliveries. This streamlined evidence capture supported accurate project documentation and enabled efficient tracking of materials, reducing the risk of delays and ensuring that field teams had the right resources when needed.
-
Client & partner reporting: Beetmann also created client-specific users within FYLD to provide stakeholders with day-to-day visibility on project progress. This enhanced transparency helped strengthen customer relationships by keeping clients informed and involved throughout the project lifecycle.
Achievements to date
Since implementing FYLD, Beetmann has made significant strides in improving project timelines, reducing lost time, and increasing overall operational efficiency. Despite some ongoing delays, FYLD has enabled Beetmann to proactively manage and mitigate challenges, leading to measurable improvements across several areas. Key achievements include:
-
Improved operational efficiency: FYLD has optimized the use of work time by 25% per workday, allowing Beetmann to significantly improve project execution and reduce downtime.
-
Increased project capacity: FYLD currently supports an average demand of approximately 0.435 MW per project across 20+ projects. These projects are generating over 45MWh per day, and Beetmann anticipates expanding this capacity even further as more projects are brought online throughout the year.
-
Optimized project efficiency: With FYLD’s capabilities driving workflow efficiency, Beetmann has reduced lost time by 12.5% per day. Beetmann used job blockers within FYLD to manage workers' lunch breaks and other scheduled downtime. By automating the scheduling of these breaks, Beetmann ensured that team productivity remained high and that project timelines stayed on track. This efficient management of worker downtime helped maximize project throughput and reduce delays.
Testimonial
“FYLD has been a game-changer for our projects. The visibility it provides into all our operations across multiple cities has been invaluable, especially when it comes to tracking safety, materials, and project progress. Thanks to FYLD, we’re completing projects faster, saving on operational costs, and positioning ourselves as leaders in the market. We now have the confidence to scale our operations with ease.”
